about

Originally recorded by Blind Boy Fuller in the late 1920s as "Blacksnakin' Jiver", this song is typical of the piedmont blues happening around Durham, North Carolina during that time.

lyrics

I loaded sugar all through the summer / I dumped coal all through the fall / I had to go out on Sunday in my overhauls / You know now mama / That tain't no way to do / Same way you jivin' me someone's gonna come along and jive you, too / And I'd rather be bit by a rattlesnake than to let you jive poor me (etc...)
