Apple Beneath The Tree - Sweet As The Rosemary

about

These two tunes are fairly common in the Hungarian canon of traditional dance tunes. The Hungarian term for hurdy gurdy is "tekerölant", which means "wheeled lute". Since my hurdy gurdy is actually a tekerölant, I thought it fitting to include a couple of Hungarian dance tunes, the kind that were meant to be played on the instrument. Did the immigrants bring their hurdy gurdies with them to America and onward to Ohio? Who knows, but one of the largest populations of Hungarian immigrants in the United States once resided in Cleveland, Ohio and some Hungarians apparently ended up working in the fields of Northwest Ohio and even across the border in Indiana, so it's entirely possible that the tekerölant was here in the Midwest long before I discovered the instrument.
