Bill Morgan's Gal

by Matthew Keeler

/

about

Originally a minstrel show tune, Bill Morgan's Gal was likely written in the 1800s or early 1900s. Mike Seeger's band, The New Lost City Ramblers, covered the song during the 1960s folk revival. The tune is a comical song about a woman who spends too much and the man who foots the bill.

lyrics

Refrain: My name is Morgan, but it ain't J.P. / Ain't no bank on Wall Street that belongs to me / You may have known me pretty long, but you sure have got my initials wrong / My name is Morgan, but it ain't J. P. (etc...)
